SUPLASYN®

SUPLASYN® (Hyaluronic Acid) is indicated to relieve joint pain and improve joint function.1 Hyaluronic acid is a type of glycosaminoglycans and is an important component of extracellular tissues including cartilage and synovial fluid.1 Intra-articular injection of hyaluronic acid temporarily restores the lubricating and shock-absorbing properties of synovial fluid, promotes hyaluronic acid production in the joint, and prevents cartilage erosion.2 The intra-articular hyaluronic acid injectables differ in molecular weight, with the intermediate molecular weight hyaluronic acid provides optimum stimulation of biosynthesis of hyaluronic acid in the joints.3,4*

SUPLASYN® can be given as a single injection or repeated weekly over a three week period.1 Since cartilage is avascular, the drug is inefficiently delivered by systemic delivery. Injecting hyaluronic acid directly to the joint enhances the effectiveness of the treatment and is associated with fewer adverse events5,6 You should rest for 1 - 2 days after each injection and avoid strenuous activities.1 Mild local reactions such as pain, redness, and swelling may occur at the affected joint. If these symptoms occur, ice can be applied locally.1

*Intermediate molecular weight defined as 500,000 to 4,000,000 Dalton.3
